Assumptions and limits.

Rates checked against GOV.UK on 11 October 2026. This is not tax advice, and it is not provided or endorsed by HMRC.

  1. 01One disposal, by an individual who is UK resident.
  2. 02No other gains or losses in the same tax year, so the whole £3,000 annual exempt amount is available.
  3. 03Your income is ordinary taxable income. Savings and dividend income, Gift Aid and pension contributions can change the basic rate band and are not modelled.
  4. 04The cost is already worked out. HMRC's same-day, 30-day and Section 104 pooling rules decide which cost applies, and this tool does not apply them.
  5. 05No reliefs, and no income tax on the original receipt (for example staking or mining rewards).
  6. 06Rates: 18% within the unused basic rate band and 24% above it for disposals from 30 October 2024; 10% and 20% before that date.
